EU Leaders Seek to Influence Trump Ahead of Critical Putin Call
European leaders are scrambling to coordinate with Donald TRUMP before his first publicly confirmed conversation with Vladimir Putin in nearly three months. The call comes at a pivotal moment in stalled efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.
According to the Financial Times, Trump’s advisers view this discussion as potentially decisive for shaping the US position in future peace negotiations. French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and UK opposition leader Keir Starmer have scheduled a second joint call with Trump since Friday in a bid to align strategies.
"We can only hope for further progress," Merz stated, while emphasizing transatlantic coordination. However, European officials remain concerned about the possibility of unilateral US action that could undermine Ukraine’s position.
